To Delete or Not Delete?

At this point I realize I have left my blog in the dust for quite some time. Truth be told, I have wanted to delete it on a number of occassions. Coming into this journey in Texas four months ago I didn't have many expectations. All I knew was that this is where God was asking me to go and the rest was up to Him. Now that I'm knee-deep in and almost half-way through, I have to say that this has been one of the most challenging and stretching seasons of my life so far. God didn't show me what I was getting into with City Year because I probably wouldn't have chosen it if I had known. But He is doing a great work in me.

I have wanted to delete it all... throw in the towel and come home to all of YOU ... my Amazing family. But I have decided that I cannot delete my blog. I cannot close my eyes and wish away this intense, intimidating, exhausting, crazy ride of a season I find myself in. I must go through it and continue to trust Him deeply.  My hope is to send my love and write more often on this blog, because my prayer is that there will be more positive and beautiful things along the way to tell you about in San Antonio as my journey continues on.

For now, THANK YOU so so much for all of your support and prayers on my behalf. I wish I had all the time in the world to keep in constant touch with each of you. Know that I keep you close to my heart always. I love you all and miss you more than you even know. I'll be coming home for Christmas December 18th! I absolutely cannot wait to see you! I hope you all have the best Thanksgiving with the people you love the most. God has given us incredible gifts ...

This is City Year

Here's a little taste of why I came to San Antonio and how I will be serving this next year.  As a City Year Corps. team member, I will work full-time as a tutor, mentor, and role model to help students stay on track – and get back on track – to graduate. I will be in schools, running after-school programs, and leading and developing youth leadership programs and vacation camps. Other responsibilities involve cleaning up communities, rebuilding neighborhoods, breaking down social barriers, developing young leaders, and fostering active citizenship. As a near-peer and a friend, I am hoping to uniquely help improve student attendance, behavior, coursework, and overall confidence (which research confirms are all indicators of a student's likelihood of graduating from high school). This school-based service is at the heart of City Year’s “Whole School, Whole Child” approach to helping students and schools succeed.

There is clearly an undeniable need for an organization like City Year all across San Antonio. While I am coming alongside this service program to help in their heroic objectives for at risk youth, my highest aspiration serving in this way lies in the open doors such an experience will create to shine the greatest hope of all: Christ’s love and His reality.

I believe that God is up to something incredible in San Antonio. While many of His purposes for me in this mission field are yet to be revealed, I know without a doubt that the Lord is asking me to be fully present and available for how He is going to move in this city. He has graciously prepared me to bring all of the knowledge, gifts, and experiences He has given me to this mission. Perhaps the biggest thing He is asking of me in San Antonio is my solid obedience to His voice, moment by moment, as He moves and directs my steps each day. What an amazing blessing to get to see it all unfold for His glory!

When Dreams Come True
